The 317 Podcast: Can The Colts Get In Stride For the Bengals

Play episode

We’re joined by Colts beat writer Joel A. Erickson of the Indy Star to lead off episode 5 of the 317 podcast! Joel and I tackle what went wrong this past week against the Browns and what we learned about this Colts team in the process.

This week exposed a bunch of key weaknesses for an up and down Colts team that is struggling to find it’s identity and nail down a statement win. Can Philip Rivers really be expected to lead this team to victories over tough opponents, or is he just too old? Will the defense crumble every time they face a good mobile quarterback? Will the offensive line show up at some point?

The Colts need to start answering some of these questions soon if this season is going to be successful.

Joel is followed by The Athletic’s Bob Kravitz, who wrote a big piece this week on the ten black players who boycotted the IU in 1969. Joel details what the extreme sacrifices that boycott meant for those players, including being forced to leave the state, the toll it took on individuals involved and the comparison with boycotts happening during the pandemic, and we pay tribute to an all-time Indy great and local legend George Taliaferro.

Joel also talks Colts, the intensity of the NBA bubble and the bungling of the coronavirus outbreak on the Tennessee Titans.

I take another swing at MLB playoff predictions after nearly putting up an O-fer thus far on the AL side and I ruminate on what this latest championship means for Lebron’s legacy.
